This is the court’s third conviction to the popular after the verdicts for the first time of the ‘Gürtel’ and for the use of the ‘box b’ for the works of the party’s headquarters in Genoa.
The Criminal Chamber of the National Court has ordered the People’s Party (PP) to pay EUR 204,198.64 for taking advantage of the benefits obtained by the Gürtel plot between 2001 and 2009 in the municipality of Boadilla del Monte (Madrid).
This is the third sentence of the court against the PP after the judgments for the first period of the ‘Gürtel’ and for the use of the ‘box b’ for the works of the party headquarters in Genoa 13.
Between the 23 people convicted in this new sentencepassed unanimously, and appealed, are also the leader of the plot Gúrtel, Francisco Correaand his second, Paul Crespo, who confessed their role in the network in exchange for a reduction in the prosecutor’s request. Both, who have been serving long prison terms for other parts of the Gürtel case for years, have been sentenced to 13 and a half years in prison.
In addition, the National Court has condemned 36 years and 11 months in prison for former mayor of Boadilla del MonteArturo González Panero, aka ‘el Albondiguilla’.
The court relies on Gürtel’s early ruling, largely upheld by the Supreme Court, to de modus operandi From the plot. According to the verdict, the profits were obtained through the allocation or direct contracting of Francisco Correa’s companies or those selected by him in exchange for commissions for the public functions of the City Council and the Municipal Land and Housing Corporation (EMSVI). Some of those payments, the ruling said, were intended to pay for acts, events and expenses of the PP.
