The DUP leader said there was “unwavering support” from voters for united leaders who stand together against the Northern Ireland Protocol.
Sir Geoffrey Donaldson spoke of the latest demonstration to be held against post-Brexit agreements, which provide for additional inspections of goods entering the region from the UK.
Unionists categorically oppose it as a frontier in the Irish Sea.
Sir Jeffrey, TUV Leader Jim Alistair and loyalists Jimmy Bryson gave speeches at the event Friday night at Brownlow House in Lurgan, County Armag.
Ulster union leader Doug Petty was supposed to speak at the rally, but he expressed concern that the anti-protocol demonstrations had heightened tensions.
His decision came after a security alert disrupted a peacekeeping operation in North Belfast, and was spoken about by Irish Foreign Minister Simon Cowen.
Mr. Petty’s poster was placed on a chair with a piece of string around his neck while he was absent from the event.
Mr Alistair said he removed the poster from the show because he thought his display, intentionally or unintentionally, was “completely inappropriate”.
He told the Associated Press that if anyone used it to “transmit evil” they were “stupid”.
Sir Geoffrey said his message at the event was for unionists to work together.
“We must unite. We must oppose protocol,” he said.
“The union has every right to publicly and peacefully express its open opposition to the protocol.
The Protocol undemocratically changed the constitutional position of Northern Ireland and dealt a severe blow to prosperity throughout our province.
No unitary representative supports the Irish Sea frontier.
Our opponents see the May 5 elections as an opportunity to weaken union action and divide the anti-protocol cause.
If they succeed, they will use the result to justify the status quo and do nothing for the government.
“We cannot allow that.
“It is important that our families go to the polls and get a union card.”
Sir Geoffrey also reiterated his position that his party, which is running for Stormont’s next chief executive, is dependent on the government taking steps to remove the protocol.
He added, “The strong message that Lorgan sent tonight is not about who participated or who did not participate, but the United States stands together in principled and united opposition to these agreements.”
Alistair said any unionist “before protocol” would “kill the move from the UK to the Republic of Ireland”.
“Such a basic attack is being carried out in a protocol of our constitutional position, which is inconsistent with the UK’s important membership,” he said.
“The main premise of the Protocol is that Britain is a foreign country and that Northern Ireland, in terms of trade, is an integral part of the European Union, which should be the economically integrated island of Ireland.
“Any unionist who finds nothing in the protocol to protest and actually reduces protests and demonstrators, unfortunately, but it is clear that he does not accept protocol or synergy in dismantling his union.
“Union voters, shocked by this inaction, can and should express their frustration with how they have been used to their advantage in the election.
“Now is the time for strength, not weakness.”
