FPÖ candidate of the Federal President Walter Rosenkranz in conversation with the Carinthian “Krone” about surveys, Carinthia as an FPÖ core country and the dispute about place name signs.
„krone“:In current polls the FPÖ is at 20-24%, you are at 13-14%, how come?
Walter Rosencrantz: There are also polls where I am at 18% but the first vote is qualifying. In the second round of voting, everything is open. There are also candidates fishing for votes in the liberal segment. Gross for example.
As Federal President, would you resign from your fellow brotherhood, which is described as an “extreme German national”?
No, everyone has had their own life experiences. I don’t bow, I don’t lie to people. I was, I am and will be who I am. Brotherhood has always been a struggle for fundamental rights and freedoms, and today it is as modern as one could wish for.
Why is Carinthia one of your first major campaign stations?
I am regularly in Carinthia, also privately. It is a liberal interior and there have been important personalities for the FPÖ here in the past. Jörg Haider, a great role model.
Does this mean you see great potential for voters?
I hope so, but I see that all over Austria now.
You’ve been in politics for years, but remained scandal-free – how?
There is no scandalous talk with me, I’ve been walking a clear path since 1988 and don’t let anything drag me along.
You’ve been called a “candidate by the grace of Kickl”. Should Austria prepare for a shadow president if elected?
No, I was elected by the presidency. There is no Kickl grace. It was my choice.
Your election slogan is “Take back our Austria” – by whom?
Corona, inflation and the war in Ukraine have not left Austria untouched. I want to go back – back to the future; in a better one.
How do you see the historical solution to the dispute over place name signs under the then liberal LH Dörfler?
That was a big step. They sat down and didn’t get up until a good solution had been found.
What do you admire most about Carinthia?
Human. Since my student days I have met many Carinthians. They are open, social and friendly.
Three catchy words: e-mobility, wolf, corona?
I drive a hybrid myself. The wolf is indeed a problem, I am a hunter myself. Omicron classifies itself as flu-like. We will learn to live with it.
