The “Krone”/Puls24 studio’s elephant round showed one thing in particular: ÖVP top candidate Anton Mattle doesn’t have many options to form a coalition.
He himself categorically excluded the FPÖ as a coalition partner during the election campaign. And Andrea Haselwanter-Schneider, top candidate on the Fritz list, has no great sympathy for the ÖVP. That became clear in the elephant round.
Anton Mattle announced that he would be in exploratory talks with all parties – and would like to work with all parties in the future. “Günther Platter already announced that in 2018. There was one conversation and then nothing for four years,” said Haselwanter. SPÖ top candidate Georg Dornauer claimed that the SPÖ’s participation in the coalition would not come cheap for the ÖVP.
