Right-wing politician and election favorite Giorgia Meloni joked about her name on Tiktok on the day of Italy’s parliamentary elections on Sunday. In a short video, the 45-year-old Roman woman shows herself with two melons in her hand, referring to her family name. “September 25: I have said it all,” says Meloni, head of the right-wing party Fratelli d’Italia (FdI – Brothers of Italy).
Meloni’s party candidate Daniele Santanché posted a message on Twitter with the slogan. “Good choice for everyone”. She replaced the O in the Italian word “Voto” (choice) with two melons.
More than 50 million citizens were invited to vote on Sunday. Meloni could lead a centre-right alliance with the right-wing Lega and conservative Forza Italia to gain a majority in government.
