Exactly one year after his painful election defeat – and the loss of the mayor’s seat of Graz to the communists – Siegfried Nagl is back: as a special energy representative in the Chamber of Commerce.
With tears in his eyes, Siegfried Nagl announced his retirement on the evening of September 26, 2021. Shortly before that, the unthinkable became reality for him and the ÖVP: the KPÖ came first in the Graz municipal elections, Elke Kahr replaced Nagl as head of the town hall after almost 20 years.
Nagl then almost completely withdrew from the public, only he has been seen more often in social life in recent months. And now he also has a new job – but not in Graz, but in Vienna: Nagl will become the new special energy officer at the Austrian Chamber of Commerce in October!
Dispute between chamber and ministry
According to a statement from the Chamber of Commerce, “a fundamental transformation of the energy system is needed”. To date, however, there is no “comprehensive plan to ensure the supply of affordable green energy”. That is why the chamber now wants to develop a “concrete implementation plan” that “takes into account the necessary openness to technology, but also the infrastructure needs and the possibilities of international energy partnerships”.
Sounds demanding – and against the background that the mood between the “black” Chamber of Commerce and the Green Ministry of Climate Protection under Leonore Gewessler is quite tense, it doesn’t get any easier.
