“War Party of Hope” – Exit: The MFG loses a central figure

Date:

MFG national coach Gerhard Pöttler surprisingly resigns. The reason given by the resident of Salzburg, who is an important man in the party, is internal disagreements. Shortly after the party lost access to the Tyrolean state parliament, the party also lost its federal manager, the federal financial officer and the chairman of the state party of Salzburg.

“Many of my attempts to give MFG a professional face have been successful, others less so. At the moment it hardly makes sense to blame anyone, I wouldn’t be either,” explains Pöttler.

“I have come to the conclusion that some of those involved are no longer practicing what we promised our supporters. I cannot and do not want to participate anymore,” said Pöttler in a letter to the party. According to him, MFG has already given in to the existing system.

Invoice for coaching training in focus
In particular, the man from Salzburg mentioned a bill for coaching training for the three MFG members of the Upper Austrian state parliament of 28,800 euros for a total of 30 units. This is regulated and legally approved in the Party Financing Act. For him, in an MFG that wants to be ‘different’ it is morally unacceptable to pay almost 1,000 euros gross taxpayer money for one unit per person, while many people can no longer afford the basic necessities of daily life.

“The party is no different from other parties”
“For me, the MFG was a celebration of hope. However, the Upper Austria bill shows – as just one of many examples – that the party is no different from other parties,” said Pöttler. On the way from a ‘one-topic party’ to new topics on which the party is clearly needs to position itself requires a critical review of the values worked out in its inception: “Perhaps my exit will be the go-ahead for MFG to start a reflection process.”

It is unclear what Pöttler’s departure means for MFG six months before the Salzburg state elections on April 23, 2023. In a press conference in mid-August, the outgoing state party leader emphasized that according to a self-conducted poll, 11 percent of those polled would vote for the MFG.
