Negotiations for the collective labor agreement in the retail sector will start on Tuesday. The union is demanding a 10% wage increase. Employer negotiator Rainer Trefelik had previously described the situation as “challenging”, currently there is another counter offer to the employees.
Union negotiator Helga Fichtiger had previously said he wanted “permanent, strong salary increases”. Trefelik, on the other hand, said he wanted to see government cost-of-living support in the overall package, as metalworking employers had already done. It’s important to get the jobs and not “overwhelm the companies”. The bad “buy mood” is also a problem for trade, but the economic success of trade depends a great deal on it.
“Increase purchasing power by raising salaries”
“Purchasing power can be increased by raising salaries,” Fichtinger replied. The employees in the retail sector really did not have any financial room left. Since every seventh job is in retail, “every tenth point” more salary makes a difference. Trefelik pointed out directly, however, that not every wage paid in the retail sector subsequently flows back into the retail sector.
Fichtinger and Trefelik tried to create a good mood, unlike the metalheads, KV negotiations in this industry usually go without saber clatter. But Trefelik said, “I suppose we will exchange views for a long time.”
