“Let’s Do It” – Striedinger took office as chief of staff

Date:

Rudolf Striedinger is now also the official Chief of Staff of the Austrian Armed Forces. At the military ceremony in the Maria Theresien Kasierne in Vienna, the general demanded: “Let’s do it, for the sake of the Austrian army.”

In his inaugural address, he thanked Defense Minister Klaudia Tanner for the trust placed in him and praised the minister. What you have achieved in terms of the military budget is extraordinary. The now increasing talent of the army, which therefore had to be maintained at a high level, “did not exist in the Second Republic”.

Calling the Troop Team Leader
“We are all called upon to direct these funds to the best of our knowledge and belief in the right direction and in a concerted effort by all parts of the armed forces, and I do mean everyone,” he appealed to the team spirit in the troops. And from his point of view the most important thing: “We have to look at our staff.” He also explicitly supported Tanner’s recent rejection of extremism and sexism in the military.

In front of a company of honor, which included marching musicians, Tanner wished him “good luck as a soldier” and celebrated the republic. She emphasized that after decades of dry spells, the increase in the defense budget has been achieved jointly and across all party political boundaries. She emphasized that Striedinger’s free program not only brings competence and military know-how, but also has the right feel for the military, the soldiers and everyone in the department. Striedinger is “without a doubt one of our best officers”.

Military and political career
Born on September 26, 1961 in Wiener Neustadt, 61-year-old Striedinger has held management positions in the military for 20 years. From 2002, he was Head of the General Staff and Divisional Head of the General Staff Department and thus responsible for direct support to the Chief of the General Staff and the coordination of the General Staff with the political leadership of the department. In 2006 he was deployed as commander of the Austrian contingent and Task Force North of the EUFOR ALTHEA mission in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

In 2011, Striedinger became commander of the military command in Lower Austria, in 2016 he transferred to the Defense Bureau as military chief and from 2020 he was chief of staff to Defense Minister Tanner. Since July 2021, he has been Chief of Staff of the General Staff Directorate and Deputy Chief of Staff. Striedinger became publicly known as co-head of the Corona Advisory Board Gecko.
