ÖVP-U Committee – Head: There was a politically motivated occupation

Senior officials made that clear to her in a meeting. The post of department head at the Federal Office for Preventing and Combating Corruption (BAK) is said to have ultimately been awarded to a “person involved in party politics”. Later, the new officer didn’t even know why he was here and meant he had his staff for factual questions after all. According to her own statement, the now retired department head has never experienced such a lack of competence.

Resistance had consequences
Because the ex-contract employee objected to the performance of the position, she was not involved in the BAK evaluation project later on. She was not wanted as a person and was not ‘in the inner circle’, according to the woman. In general, people close to the ÖVP were always appointed in the Ministry of the Interior and in the BAK.

Federal Police Director Michael Takacs, Karoline Edtstadler’s former deputy director, had previously been questioned about the post office occupations. Takacs stated that he could not recall any partisan influence. Nor could he say whether the party work was paid for with tax money, because that was a matter for the specialized departments.

Accusations against Edtstadler
On this point, it is alleged that an agency charged the federal government for supervising a strategy meeting at the Ministry of the Interior, although the EU election campaign of then Secretary of State Karoline Edtstadler (ÖVP) was also discussed. The ÖVP Member of Parliament Corinna Scharzenberger made it clear on Thursday that the exam was about criminal matters at the time. Edtstadler only later decided to run for the EU elections.
