ÖVP in third place – survey disaster: coalition continues to fly low

Grades aren’t just a headache at school. The government knows this and can sing many unpleasant songs about it. Representative surveys (October 26-28; 1250 respondents, fluctuation range 3.1 percent) by IFDD on behalf of PULS 24 show: the ÖVP is at 20 percent, well behind the SPÖ (27) and FPÖ (25). If Marco Pogo (Dominik Wlazny), who has a PhD in beer, joins, the chancellor will get just 19 percent, the green coalition partner 8, behind Pogo and NEOS – 10 each (see charts). IFDD boss Christoph Haselmayer: “The ÖVP was restored two weeks ago and was 23 percent. But due to the revelations about Schmid, another three percent was lost.”

Currently only red-blue would have a stable majority. Hard to imagine at the moment. “If that continues, the SPÖ should ask itself: do you want to do what you think is morally right, which is to exclude the FPÖ, or Italian conditions?” That would threaten. Possibly with coalitions of four parties. A traffic light would be new territory for Austria.

Can the ÖVP recover?
The FPÖ is the winner of the crisis, asylum, inflation and the presidential election campaign play a role. Political scientist Katrin Stainer-Hämmerle sees it this way. As of today, the next regular elections in 2024 will be similar to those in the late 1990s. Three games of almost the same size (SPÖ, ÖVP, FPÖ), according to Haselmayer. “But I think the ÖVP will recover.”

Experts: Pogo could seriously harm the Greens
Stainer-Hämmerle currently assumes a red-blue duel. Business and crises take their toll. “Nehammer should also make the past and the corruption clear.” The future could be bright for Pogo, at the expense of Green. “Their clientele is sensitive and fickle. The numbers are a signal that people want to get some fresh air.”
