The municipalities may now use the money that the federal government makes available for vaccination campaigns in the autumn for other purposes and do not have to repay it. A corresponding decision by the National Council makes this possible, because as the pandemic eased, the earmarking of the payments was increasingly called into question. In April, 75 million euros were spent on this.
The financial contribution already paid to the municipalities was broken down by size of the municipality and was actually earmarked. There were a maximum of nine euros per inhabitant. Condition: The municipal vaccination bonus had to be used for campaigns. Otherwise, the amount would have gone back to the federal government.
The funds are flowing again
On Tuesday, however, the brakes were pulled in the budget session of the National Council. Moreover, they went even further: the communities that already spent the money on an organized vaccination campaign will receive this amount again from the federal government. However, invoices and receipts must be submitted to the Federal Accounting Office.
