The lehendakari Inigo Urkullu today referred to the controversy surrounding the ‘only yes is yes’ law, urging the search for a solution “to guarantee the protection of women”, either by reforming the law or by unifying the doctrine , or by using both formulas.
Since the enactment of the new law guaranteeing sexual freedom, known as the “only yes is yes” law, more than a month ago, the sentences of the aggressors have been reduced in some cases following requests for downward revisions.
The lehendakari has assured that the purpose of the law is “clear: to provide more protection for women” and that the problems caused are “undesirable” because “they run counter to a goal shared by all of society”.
He ended his assessment by saying that “it is urgent to avoid decisions that no one wants, reduce the severity and act rationally” with the aim of ensuring the protection of women.
