Aaron RamsdaleEngland goalkeeper, spoke about FIFA’s ban on the sale of beer in and around stadiums, saying “if the fans can’t drink,” they need to play better on the pitch to cheer them on.
FIFA announced on Friday a ban on the sale of beer in and around stadiums and limiting it to ‘fan zones’ and licensed hotels, a decision that has raised doubts about the integrity of the tournament.
Ramsdale, who spoke to the media on Friday and spoke about how watching the last World Cup still gives him goosebumps, insisted they need to play better to please the fans.
“Since they can’t drink, we have to do better on the field to entertain them. We have to play by the rules and be good on the field,” Ramsdale said.
The Arsenal goalkeeper, who came to this World Cup in place of Jordan Pickford, is living in his second major international tournament after last year’s Euro Cup, where they were runners-up.
“There are moments when you have to poke yourself to see that you are really here. It’s a very joyful moment,” he said. “It was very special, especially for my mom and dad, who traveled across the country with me to play soccer.”
