After five operations on the larynx, the governor of Burgenland, Hans Peter Doskozil, returned to the political scene this week. He talks to Conny Bischofberger about living with his rare disease, why and ostrich migration policy – including the SPÖ.
His budget speech last Thursday was the test of the sum. “I made it to the end without any problems,” says Doskozil proudly during our interview in the “Altes Landhaus” in Eisenstadt. Almost four weeks have passed since the fifth operation on the larynx, then a lot of speech therapy was scheduled. “My voice has never been more consistent,” says the governor. His right hand presses on the larynx so that no air can escape – the area still needs to be sewn up after a tracheotomy.
