Power games in the SPÖ – ÖVP evil: “Rendi-Wagner is just a passenger”

Date:

Burgenland’s governor Hans Peter Doskozil (SPÖ) and the red party leader Pamela Rendi-Wagner are once again at odds. The reason is an investigation by the SPÖ Burgenland. This showed that the Social Democrats would fare much better in a National Council election with Doskozil at the top than with Rendi-Wagner. The ÖVP reacts to this with a certain malice. “Rendi-Wagner has apparently long since relinquished command of her party and is now just a passenger,” Secretary-General Christian Stocker said.

During his comeback interview in the Krone on Sunday, Doskozil had called for a clearer asylum policy than his party leader Rendi-Wagner is currently offering. With an overview of how the SPÖ would do in a National Council election with him as the top candidate, the governor and his red state organization took it a step further.

Survey: SPÖ with Doskozil nationwide at 32 percent
In the survey by opinion pollster Peter Hajek, the SPÖ is nationally 32 percent below Doskozil and 27 percent below Rendi-Wagner. With the governor as the Social Democrats’ chancellor candidate, the ÖVP would fall from 22 to 20 percent compared to Rendi-Wagner, and the FPÖ from 25 to 21.

‘SPÖ is in tangible presidential debate’
“The SPÖ has a palpable debate about its chairman and is causing increasing confusion among the population and distrust in politics. The head of the SPÖ in Burgenland sees the chairman of his own federal party chairman as clearly as never before. The result of the escalation : the SPÖ is hardly able to act anymore,” writes ÖVP Secretary General Christian Stocker in a broadcast on Tuesday.

According to Stocker, instead of taking responsibility towards the people and interfering in overcoming the crisis, the Social Democracy is only concerned with itself. “That also explains why the SPÖ has not had any constructive ideas for months,” Stocker explains.

Stocker: ‘The elections will take place in 2024’
According to him, the SPÖ should not hand out the bearskin too early. “The 2024 elections will take place, even though the Social Democrats are apparently already in the internal party election campaign. Because Doskozil and his confidants are currently trying again to take power in the headquarters of the SPÖ federal party in order to run for the chancellorship in the next elections.”
