Enthusiasm about parliament – curator did not have to request renovation

Date:

During the renovation of the House of Representatives, the arts and culture program is once again in the news. After the gold-decorated Bösendorfer piano, the responsible curator is now under fire. The director of the Leopold Museum, Hans-Peter Wipplinger, was appointed without a tender. In addition, his partner works with him.

He doesn’t mind that the project manager is his partner Susanne Längle. Wipplinger said he could rely on her “100 percent” and that they mostly work together on weekends.

Costs of 40,000 euros
A compensation of 40,000 euros is provided for Wipplinger, the daily newspaper “Der Standard” reports. The art historian, author and editor of several essays works full-time as director of the Leopold Museum in Vienna.

Recently, the opposition has been annoyed by the cost of a Bösendorfer piano, which will be placed in Parliament’s reception room at the initiative of the President of the National Council, Wolfgang Sobotka (ÖVP). The rental of the musical instrument should cost 3000 euros per month. All in all, however, the area of art and culture should only account for 0.5 percent of the total cost of the renovation. Another idea would have been a new hand image for parliament, which the magistrate did not approve.
