The SPÖ Oberösterreich wants a “compulsory integration service” for young asylum seekers who have good prospects of a positive decision. The structure could be based on the voluntary social year, in which you serve the public good for pocket money, says state party leader and state councilman Michael Lindner. Language courses must be taken at the same time, so that the activity as a whole is equivalent to a full-time job.
With “a permanent and paid job” and the prospect of a future that comes with it, Linder is convinced that “it is less easy to go wrong”: “The public sector must avoid bored young people with no prospects at all costs ”, argue the red ones. The state of Upper Austria must therefore immediately finance the “compulsory integration service” as an immediate measure.
Lindner and his fellow party member, Linz Mayor Klaus Luger, believe this will “get the young people off the streets”. The Halloween riots in Linz finally showed that some of the young refugees are causing problems, the mayor cited as an example. However, of the 129 people whose identities were established on Halloween night, only six were asylum seekers. 35 were entitled to asylum, 24 with permanent residence status and six were entitled to subsidiary protection. However, the SPÖ is open to taking similar measures for the latter groups.
