The National Council on Wednesday approved new rules for the nursing profession and a nursing bonus for relatives. However, only those with an average monthly income of no more than 1500 euros net benefit from the latter. In addition, they must have lived in the same household with their family member or relatives for at least one year.
In addition, the next of kin must at least be entitled to care allowance level 4. Due to these criteria, the new care allowance does not go far enough for the SPÖ and FPÖ. Social SP spokesman Josef Muchitsch called for payment from care level 3. The NEOS wants a radical reform at all and spoke of ‘bridging aid’. The care allowance for relatives must start in mid-2023.
Two hours of time credit for night shift
Further decisions concern healthcare workers. Employees in care and nursing are entitled to a sixth week of holiday from the age of 43, which can also be compensated financially until 2026. This includes both senior civil service and nursing assistants. It does not matter whether the work is done in a hospital, nursing home or in mobile services. In addition, the National Council has decided that all nurses who work the night shift in the homes will from now on receive a time credit of two hours. So far this has not been the case in all countries.
Special care time extended
Keyword “care” – On Wednesday, the members of the Austrian National Council also decided that the special care period will be extended until the end of the school year.
