The intervention of the Coalition General Coordinator, Arnaldo Otegi, who was ultimately prevented from attending due to health problems, was scheduled for Paseo Sarasae. Instead, the spokesperson for EH Bildu took the floor in the Foral parliament, Bakartxo Ruizafter the presentation by the former Mayor of Pamplona/Iruña Joseba Asirón, who noted that this Aberri Eguna has “special connotations” because after two years of a severe pandemic they have the opportunity to come together and because the 500th anniversary of the acquisition of the castle of Amaiur, “where this Basque people decided to fight their last struggle for freedom, justice, independence and sovereignty”.

“We will not stop until we have built the first Basque Republic,” claimed Bakartxo Ruiz, who in his speech demanded democracy and the right to self-determination.

After celebrating their being able to return to the streets of the capital of Navarre, where thousands of ikurriñas are once again on display, he alluded to the “worn phrase that the Basques are coming” to reply “that they that we come from nowhere, we are Navarree, we are Basques”.

In the “heart of Euskal Herria” he has denounced the existence of “inquisitors” who have tried and intend to put an end to the “memory” of this people and in this sense he has pointed out that “the regime and essentially the Navarre right” have tried to make them forget that they were once “sovereigns” and that they want to forget the “3500 murdered in the ditches of Navarre” who fought “for the common good, a fairer society of free and equal people”, values they also claim today.

Ruiz has insisted that they have tried to forget that “Nafarroa is a nuclear part of Euskal Herria” and that is why 40 years ago they approved the “improvement of jurisdiction that aimed to separate Nafarroa from the rest of the steal the Basque territories by our voice and the word so that we could not determine our future”, but: “Here we are”, he claimed.

“These are not easy times,” insisted Ruiz, assuring they were ahead.”big challenges to face it before it’s too late, if it hasn’t already,” referring to climate change and capitalism leading “to the massive impoverishment of populations who are already unable to meet their electricity bills, fuel or basic necessities.” Pay. Either we are undergoing profound transformations or we are going to collapse as a planet, society or people,” he emphasized.

In this context “we need sovereignty to make our own decisionsThe coalition spokeswoman insisted, who in her speech also alluded to Ukraine, Palestine and the Sahara and advocated peace.

In this celebration of “a thousand colors” he wanted to “thank the Basque men and women, Senegalese, Saharawi, Bolivian, Colombian, Ecuadorian and of many origins who celebrate the Aberri Eguna today”. “That’s the Euskal Herria we want, diverse, plural and multicultural, a hospitable country, that drinks and will continue to drink from all the cultures that have been here,” added Ruiz, who concluded by asking: “Let’s dream together and be optimistic”

We can Euskadik “guztiona” defendatuko duen aberri “plural” eta “anitza” eskatu du
