“Krone” was there – SPÖ-Klausur: These details say a lot

Date:

The SPÖ held its New Year’s retreat in Klagenfurt: Pamela Rendi-Wagner wants a “Bodensee coalition” to find solutions to asylum issues.

Choreography and unspoken words are often almost as meaningful as the content presented. From this point of view, two details stood out during the SPÖ’s New Year’s retreat: Lower Austria will vote in 23 days. The stronghold of the ÖVP. Despite the ÖVP crisis, the SPÖ seems to have written off this election before election day – no declaration of war against ÖVP Lower Austria. Not a word about the top candidate Franz Schnabl. Only Carinthia, where elections are due in 58 days, counts. The red grandees traveled to Klagenfurt to give the provincial governor Peter Kaiser a stage through the monastery.

Striking number 2: Five action points were established: health, inflation, education, migration and environment. SPÖ leader Pamela Rendi-Wagner opted for inflation and migration. Health, actually the doctor’s favorite topic, she left to the Viennese mayor Michael Ludwig during the presentation. Rendis Signal: Migration is now a business for the bosses.

Declaration of war on Doskozil?
A challenge for the elephants in the room – the absent Hans Peter Doskozil? She told the governor of Burgenland: “Hans Peter Doskosil was welcome last year, he is welcome this year and he will be welcome next year. But he himself has decided not to be part of the SPÖ presidency anymore.

So much for the nuances. With “fact politics instead of show politics”, the SPÖ wants to score accordingly in the field of asylum and migration. This requires alliances in Europe, says Rendi-Wagner, who can envision a ‘Bodensee coalition’ with Germany and Switzerland. Asylum procedures under the Geneva Refugee Convention outside the European Union are therefore the “only reasonable solution”. One cannot wait for all 27 EU countries to agree. Furthermore, the SPÖ proposes a European asylum system.

Anti-Inflation Commission with bite
The SPÖ wants to counter record inflation by suspending VAT on basic foodstuffs, halting rental inflation and establishing an “anti-inflation commission” with official control functions.

The SPÖ wants to combat the shortage of doctors and nurses with more training places. The nursing profession should also be recognized as hard work.
