Esquerra Republicana expressed its satisfaction on Thursday that it has taken steps forward “in anti-repression matters” through the abolition of the crime of sedition. The Republicans confirm in a statement that it can be verified today that the reform of the Penal Code presupposes a collective benefit, “not only for the independence movement, but for all Democrats”.
As ERC has defended, the Supreme Court’s interpretation of incitement in the October 1 verdict is opened the door to condemn other peaceful movements for this crime. It thus positively appreciates the recognition, by Judge Llarena himself, that there is no substitute for the crime of sedition, but rather that the effective removaland they assure that thanks to this the “decriminalization” of the October 1 events is getting closer.
Republicans have repeatedly pointed out that the entry into force of the reform “improves the objective conditions,” now and in the future, for all people subject to reprisals. Therefore, they emphasize the importance of negotiation as a conflict resolution mechanism and intensify their commitment to this path.
For this reason, they have assured ERC that they will continue to fight, both legally and politically “end the repression”. Esquerra Republicana defends amnesty as the best way to stop the October 1 repression because it “the way that guarantees more justice”.
With regard to the implications that Llarena’s position may have in the overt causes of exiles, ERC has indicated that it will respect any personal decisions that arise.
With regard to the general secretary of Esquerra Republicana, Martha Rovirahas assured from Geneva that this information deserves “a thorough political, legal and personal assessment” and called for “caution”.
“When we bet on the withdrawal of sedition, it was precisely to win rights, freedoms and democracy. To be able to defend with all our rights the political and peaceful project of the Catalan Republic,” he assured.

For his part, the President of the Generalitat, Pere Aragones, this morning reviewed the decision of magistrate Pablo Llarena. “In the past, extradition was requested for three crimes, now for two. The most serious falls,” he said in an interview with Catalunya Ràdio.
Aragonès has explained that he does not know the details of Llarena’s decision and has expressed “maximum respect for the defense strategy of all those subject to reprisals, including President Puigdemont.”
