Environmental activists and NEOS observe a failing climate policy. The PVV makes “accusations of plagiarism” against the ÖVP.
For environmentalists, the state election is first and foremost a climate election. A separate law to protect the climate is therefore at the top of the wish list. Based on state governor Johanna Mikl-Leitner’s demand for tougher penalties for activists, KlimaNÖtral spokesperson Erwin Mayer is calling for “a draft law from St. Pölten within days”. In this way, blockages can be resolved before the effects of global warming become even more noticeable.
Pure “distraction” and “bad political plagiarism”
The NEOS, on the other hand, see the blue-and-yellow country leader’s demand as a distraction for the ÖVP from its own failures in climate policy. “The real chaotic people are not trapped in the streets, but in the seats of government,” says Indra Collini. “As bad political plagiarism by Mikl-Leitner”, Udo Landbauer of the FPÖ meanwhile describes the demand for tougher sentences against the “climate terrorists”.
