The Spanish government urges Castilla y León not to approve the measure to prevent abortions

The government of Pedro Sánchez has confirmed that it will use all mechanisms of the legal system to defend women’s right to abortion under the conditions set out in current regulations.

The Spanish government has submitted an official request to this effect to the Ministry of Health of Castilla y León refrains from approving or applying any measure which is contrary to the current regulations regarding voluntary termination of pregnancy.

The Executive announced this requirement in a statement to the protocols announced by the Junta de Castilla y León to prevent abortions.

The Government of Spain confirms that it will use all mechanisms made available to it by the legal system defend women’s freedom and their right to voluntarily terminate the pregnancy under the conditions laid down in current regulations.

This is how the Sánchez executive has responded to changes to the Castilla y León protocol on abortions, which imply that gynecologists refer pregnant women who are considering terminating their pregnancies directly to mental health, the possibility of listen to the fetal heartbeat between the sixth and ninth week and include 4D ultrasounds, which are made in the last phase of pregnancy, in the service portfolio.

Some of the changes were suggested by Vox Vice President Juan García-Gallardo of Castilla y León, who later corrected by the President of the CouncilAlfonso Fernández Mañueco, from the PP, who stressed the voluntary nature of these measures and also denied that their aim was anti-abortion.
