Readers of “Krone” help a family that has fallen victim to a devastating storm. Your home must be made barrier-free.
August 18, 2022 turned a family’s life upside down. Josef and Claudia, parents of a daughter (4), were seriously injured in a storm at St. Andräer See. The 38-year-old is still suffering from the consequences today. She was in intensive care for three months and since mid-November in the rehabilitation clinic Tobelbad in Styria. We visited her there.
“Get ready for my new life”
“It’s getting better every day,” says Claudia. She’s waiting for us in a wheelchair. Speaking is difficult for her: “I still have little strength, but I am training.” The 38-year-old suffered multiple ribs, broken thoracic vertebrae and severe head injuries during the storm. A leg had to be amputated. “Here I am being prepared for my new life.”
She goes to strength training and physical therapy daily; breathing training is also on the daily schedule. With tears in her eyes, she talks about her husband and daughter, whom she visits regularly: “We have to get used to a new life.” Her apartment must be made barrier-free and needs a stair lift.
Claudia: “What keeps me going is the videophone and the love for my family. I will have to stay here for months.”
To do all this, Claudia also needs the help of the “Krone” readers. So is Petra, who lives in a tiny garden house with her three small children, and little Lina, who wants to beat bone cancer.
