Another new episode about investigations against ÖVP people. The WKStA extends the procedure for Postenschacher to the main suspect August Wöginger (Klobmann of the ÖVP) by another person: it is Hans Jörg Schelling, former ÖVP finance minister.
In the Wöginger case, Schelling is being investigated for abuse of office in a suspicious occupation of a post at the Braunau-Ried Schärding tax office.
Tax case about Siegfried Wolf
Schelling also came into the picture in the tax issue surrounding investor Siegfried Wolf. Wolf would have had to pay about eleven million euros in taxes, too much for the entrepreneur’s taste. Thomas Schmid, former Secretary General of the Treasury Department and ex-OBAGboss felt pressured by Wolf to “act on his behalf”.
In the end, he helped Wolf bribe a head of the tax office, Schmid confirmed in his interrogation. However, he did not do this on his own initiative, but “on behalf of” then Minister of Finance Schelling. He urged Wolf to make a better “deal”. The presumption of innocence applies to all persons mentioned.
