Marlene Svazek – FPÖ boss tries to be a hit star

Date:

Marlene Svazek, Salzburg’s FPÖ leader and deputy leader of the Freedom Party in the Bund, also has a soft side. The politician, who otherwise attracts attention with pithy statements and hard positions, proves this with a love song. The song in which Svazek sings a duet with her club director is dedicated to the province of Salzburg.

“It started with something stupid in the fall. We loved the idea of a campaign song. Then we just sat down and started playing,” explains Marlene Svazek, which prompted her and her club director to explore music. The claim was at least not to deliver a concoction like “HC Strache Rap” Svazek knows: “Something like that is always a tightrope walk. But we’re very happy.”

The 30-year-old politician and her club director Dom Kamper take on the singing part together. “I’ve always been musical. Music is a big subject in my family. I was in the school choir and still play the guitar,” explains the FPÖ boss from Salzburg about her voice.

Election song as a secret weapon for the state elections?
And that seems to have worked. The result is a song with a haunting chorus that – if you don’t listen carefully – could be on regional radio. “Never away from you” is peppered with all kinds of tips – such as the speed limit on the city highway and the ruling party ÖVP.

FPÖ greats from Salzburg such as Federal Councilor Marlies Steiner-Wieser, city party leader Dominic Maier or state party secretary Andreas Schöppl made guest appearances in the video clip. The song, which premiered online at 10am on Friday, will be played at FPÖ events during the ongoing state election campaign.
