The senior associations are going to refund the Corona subsidy for non-profit institutions that was wrongly received according to the Independent Party Transparency Senate (UPTS). This was announced by the Federal Governing Council on Friday in a broadcast after the meeting.
However, this is conditional, as mentioned. Should the UPTS decision be overturned at the end of the legal process, the funds will be recovered. A warranty is also required for this.
Senior association assessed as part of the ÖVP
At the end of January, the UPTS was of the opinion that the senior association should be considered part of the ÖVP. The ÖVP, on the other hand, had always argued that the eponymous associations that existed in different states and districts were not part of the party but non-profit. The responsible rectorate office now joined the arguments of the UPTS and is demanding back nearly 2.5 million grants.
The decision of Vice Chancellor Werner Kogler (Greens) was “surprised”, the Seniors Association said on Friday. It is incomprehensible “for several reasons” and demotivates tens of thousands of honorary officials.
Formally entitled to apply
It is considered positive that the Vice-Chancellor’s statement clearly stated that the Seniors’ Association was a non-profit association and was therefore formally entitled to run for office. Furthermore, even the Ministry of Social Affairs itself has asked the senior associations to submit an application in July 2020.
The decision is also incomprehensible because about 700 individual Seniors Union applications have been approved by the Ministry’s Approval Office (AWS). In Upper Austria alone, 28 applicants were even subjected to a thorough examination. The Senior Association also does not understand that Kogler did not wait for the decision of the UPTS to become legally valid.
