The “only yes is yes” reform and the new parity law take over the week of 8M

Date:

Predictably, United We Can will vote against the socialist reform of the ‘only yes is yes’ law, so, barring surprises, the PSOE will carry out the vote with the PP, Vox, Cs, PNV and PDeCAT.

The debate to validate the socialist law reform ‘only yes is yes’with the foreseeable vote against United We Canand the new parity law that the Spanish government will pass are the focus of 8M political week.

All this will happen just on the eve of the celebration of International Women’s Day, which the two government partners celebrate with great differences, especially because of the amendments proposed by the socialist part of the executive to Irene Montero’s law to end sentence reductions for sex offenders that occurred in some cases.

There are already 721 sentence reductions, what led to at least 74 releasesaccording to the latest data from the General Council for the Judiciary, a figure that hits the PSOE like a brick in an election year and hence the bill they have raised without counting on United We Can.

This initiative introduces violence and harassment as an aggravated sub-type and cites some penalties, which are for the purple to waive consent and revert to the Penal Code of La Manada. And therefore they won’t happen, though They keep asking the PSOE to meet Equality to reach an agreement before Tuesday.

But except for surprises, there will be no agreement and everything indicates that the PSOE will carry out the vote with the PP and Vox something unbearable for United We Can, in addition to Cs, PNV and PDeCAT.

While this has created one of the most serious clashes between the two partners, both are determined not to break the deck and exhaust the legislature.

Parity in politics and private affairs

That same Tuesday, the government approved the preliminary draft of law of equal representation in decision-making centersthat Pedro Sánchez announced yesterday, which includes the Council of Ministers, whoever governs, and the management of large companies, which must be at least 40 percent women.

While the Purple considered it insufficient because, according to Equality Minister Irene Montero, parity is having feminists in the institutionsto the PP it is nothing more than a media announcement that “cannot cover years of errors in feminism”.

Irene Montero will also have to answer C’s on the unintended consequences of your law and Vox in an investigation. Even the PP will raise this issue with the second vice president, Yolanda Díaz, by asking her how she will celebrate International Women’s Day, for which several demonstrations have been organized with the feminist movement and the two divided government partners.
