The first motion of censure filed against the French government, backed by several parties, failed to gain enough support in this Monday’s vote, even though it is only nine votes away from reaching it.
The motion, defended by the centrist Charles Decoursonreceived 278 votes out of the 287 he needed to overthrow Élisabeth Borne’s executive and the pension reform promoted by President Emmanuel Macron.
This is the 15th vote of no confidence against the current French executive, appointed less than a year ago to a National Assembly in which he does not have an absolute majority, and the one that has received the most support.
