Under the motto “Culture Promotion”, the regional princes receive a Körberlgeld from the broadcasting allowance – the front is crumbling …
The expensive ORF state tax, a political tradition that has been observed for years, has been added to the mandatory fee like a basket of money. But the new household rate from January 1, 2024 seems to be taking off.
Three states are already doing without it
Because with black and blue, Lower Austria is the third of nine federal states (see chart below) that will waive the state tax from next year. The future “ORF contribution” in Lower Austria will therefore decrease by almost half from the former EUR 28.25 to EUR 15.20 for the program money. State Governor Johanna Mikl-Leitner: “We do not agree with the switch to a national household contribution, not even for people who do not want to see or hear the ORF.”
In total, an exemption of 41 million euros per year – which, by the way, was rejected by the ÖVP last year at the request of an FPÖ-SPÖ alliance.
The pressure on sovereigns is increasing
In times of mega inflation, the pressure on the other monarchs (Wilfried Haslauer from Salzburg is also considering abolition) is now increasing to pay the so-called culture and sports funding from the respective budget. After all, Vorarlberg, Upper Austria and in the future Lower Austria offer many opera, theater and sports clubs tax-free.
