Due to the expansion of the e-charging stations, there should be charging possibilities every 62 kilometers on Austria’s motorways this year. There are currently 220 charging points in total. The goal is to provide at least 1,500 charging points by 2035, said Climate Minister Leonore Gewessler (Greens) on Sunday.
The European Union wants a charging station to be installed every 60 kilometers along highways and major interchanges by 2030. “We already have a very good charging infrastructure in Austria. It is among the best in Europe. We are on the right track and close to reaching the EU targets – seven years ahead of schedule,” says Gewessler.
In relation to the number of inhabitants, Austria has the sixth highest number of charging points in an EU comparison (197 charging points per 100,000 inhabitants). In the entire e-charging network, the country currently has a total of 15,663 e-charging points.
