The “Krone” takes a look “behind the scenes”: On April 23, the head of state of Burgenland will visit the mayor of Knittelfeld, Harald Bergmann. And the Greens are launching an initiative by the state parliament for a safe water supply in Styria.
The Greens from Styria are returning to their roots: after focusing heavily on the problem area of health, they are now focusing again on classic green issues. In addition to a campaign on land use (Styria remains the sad leader here), there is also water supply.
“Until now, we always thought that water was unlimitedly available in our country,” says club president Sandra Krautwaschl. But the drought in parts of Europe is also affecting Styria. “It is to be feared that groundwater reserves will have decreased by a quarter in 2050,” said the party leader. At the same time, the demand for water continues to increase significantly.
The national government must act
The Greens want more action from the state government – and are asking for a current hour in the next state parliament. Each party can only do this once a year. The attractive: Unlike urgent questions (always from 4pm), the current hour takes place at the beginning of the session and is therefore guaranteed to get a lot of attention.
SPÖ election campaign in Styria
The SPÖ’s internal election campaign is finally getting under way. Andreas Babler, mayor of Traiskirchen and left-wing parade party, begins his “basic tour” – and his third stop takes him to Weiz on Thursday, where he tries to convince the East Styrian comrades. With Graz (April 17) there is another Styrian stop on the tour schedule.
The governor of Burgenland, Hans Peter Doskozil, also goes on a “friendship tour” organized by Max Lercher. An important date: April 23 in Knittelfeld, home of the “rebel mayor” Harald Bergmann, who gained fame throughout Austria for his criticism of Pamela Rendi-Wagner. Ironically, it is election day in Salzburg.
