The “only yes is yes” reform is being discussed today in the Congressional Judiciary Committee

Date:

The reform, agreed yesterday by PSOE and PP, will be discussed today in Congress’s Judiciary Committee and will reach plenary on Thursday.

The bill, promoted by the PSOE to correct some aspects of the reform of the ‘only yes is yes’ law following the succession of sentence reductions for sex offenders and which has divided the government coalition, will be discussed in the Justice Committee this Tuesday and will reach the plenary on Thursday.

PP and PSOE reached an agreement on Mondaysome changes that the socialists say are “technical,” although to the popular “have great importance. The reform of the ‘only yes is yes’ will be discussed today in the Judiciary Committee of Congress,” both groups said.

For some of Pedro Sánchez’s investiture partners, these are “disappointing” changes, in the words of ERC delegate Pilar Valluguera after closing the presentation in Congress, which approved the reform advice with the votes of the PSOE, PP, Burgers and PNV and the opposition of Vox, United We Can, ERC and EH Bildu.

According to sources from the people’s group, the two main parties in the Chamber agreed on Monday on a compromise amendment that returns to punishing the dissemination of content inciting sexual violence against minors under the age of 16which was released.

In addition to this point, the document contained in its opinion only two other compromise amendments agreed by PSOE and PP, and two more proposals from the people.

One of these changes is the elimination of a connector in the second paragraph of article 178 of the law -the one that defines the crime of sexual assault- or the change of the word “circumstances” to “modalities” to refer to the different scenarios that can arise in a sexual assault, such as the existence of violence or annulment of the victim’s will.

At the end of Monday’s meeting, the PSOE Secretary for Equality said, Andrea Fernandezassured that all amendments included are of a “technical nature” and deal “with drafting issues”, so that they do not “substantially” change the reform proposed by the Socialists or the definition of consent, which “does not affect or put in a coma. “

Mike Legardadeputy of the PNV, agrees with the socialists that the accepted amendments are “highly technical issues that do not affect the substance”.

Other Pedro Sánchez investiture partners disagree, describing the PP and PSOE agreement as “very disappointing”. “They’ll know what they’re doing, but it’s not good news for women,” he complained. Pilar Valluguera in statements to the media along with EH Bildu’s deputy Isabel Pozueta.

This pact is also not good news for Unidas Podemos, a formation that regrets that the text being discussed today in the Justice Committee does not contain amendments from the rest of the formations, something that it believes has a political background.
