“Krone” elephant round – Salzburg election: items, sound, forgotten sign

Date:

There is still life in Salzburg politics. In the elephant round “Krone” on krone.tv and Puls24, the election campaign gained momentum again shortly before the state elections on Sunday. Things got heated with Corona and the subject of postchasing (see video above).

Governor Wilfried Haslauer (ÖVP) again warned about the tonality of the FPÖ under chairman Herbert Kickl. “He travels with you across the country. It’s not just about power, it’s about how you treat each other,” said Marlene Svazek, head of the FPÖ leader in Salzburg.

“The wolf in sheep’s clothing is always a wolf”
Not wanting to mess with Haslauer, she said, “I search in vain for Kickl on the ballot.” Unusually sharp words came from NEOS boss Andrea Klambauer. The ÖVP is concerned with retaining power, which is why there is no rejection of a black-blue coalition. “The wolf in sheep’s clothing is still a wolf,” Klambauer said in a binding tone of the PVV.

Criticism of top officials close to the ÖVP
The debate about alleged job robbery involving a police officer close to the ÖVP, who wanted to return to a good post in Salzburg in 2011 with the help of the then provincial deputy Haslauer, was also heated. “I have a lot of wishes that are being brought to me,” explains Haslauer, adding, “It’s nothing reprehensible and it’s not a job scam.”

Svazek saw it differently: “You see there is no disadvantage in being an ÖVPer. The chief of the state police and the military commander are self-declared ÖVPers and were at the beginning of your election.

While Haslauer went on the defensive on this topic, he asked for understanding in the Corona discussion: “We had no bad intentions, but wanted to protect people at risk. We didn’t know what the hell was happening there.” Svazek focused on what that meant for voters: “It was the first time that political decisions had a direct impact on people’s lives. That helped make many people aware of what politics really is.”

The discussion about a possible rent control in the state was quite exciting and bizarre. Only the blue-green top candidates held up the ‘yes’ sign. Klambauer considers the matter “settled” due to rent control. Haslauer referred to slow-acting measures. SPÖ leader David Egger did not represent a clear position, even with a “Yes”/”No” sign.

Wind turbines were previously not passionately pursued
Also interesting was the discussion about the non-existent wind turbines in Salzburg. And in doing so, Haslauer gave the Green government partner a boost: “The Greens were not always a passionate subject. Now I’ve changed my mind,” said the governor. With the exception of the PVV, all parties are in favor of building the facilities in Salzburg – and more is better than less. Interesting: Berthold looks beyond domestic politics when it comes to wind energy.
