It has long been clear: ORF must store well. The federal government set the final timetable for this on Wednesday. In addition to a clear restriction on the so-called blue page, there should be more transparency in top salaries – but also certain special privileges for employees are banned.
What the sparrows have whistled from the rooftops has now been confirmed. Instead of the previous 900 reports per week, only 350 articles are allowed to appear on the extensive online presence orf.at. This corresponds to a maximum of 50 articles per day.

But that’s not all, the content should focus more on moving images. As krone.at has learned from government circles, a 70 percent video content breakdown will apply in the future, as well as 30 percent text – there should be no word limit.
But a lot still needs to be done in the field of transparency. It is heard from negotiating circles that the Treasury Department may have gained the upper hand over the desire to do away with ORF special privileges and mandatory savings goals.
Who earns what? More transparency coming soon
In the future, the ORF will have to submit a transparency report once a year, which will also include the anonymous salary structure. In concrete terms, in addition to the income of the general director, that of the ORF directors and government officials will also be announced in the future.
Furthermore, the production costs (own and commissioned productions), consultancy, purchasing and work contracts (from 50,000 euros) as well as the range and online offer must also be visible in the future.
Out for special privileges
The currently valid ORF special privileges should also end. In concrete terms, this applies to the rent allowance for employees. So far there is a special living allowance of 127 euros – 15 times a year. From 2024, only half of this will be paid out, in 2026 this will be completely abolished. Special severance pay and special pensions will also be reduced.
Annual savings measures in terms of personnel costs, material costs and increasing production efficiency are also mandatory.
