In a note, the Basque government explained that “it regularly monitors and exercises constant checks on its communication systems and technologies, networks and computer servers in order to ensure the security and confidentiality of communications of the people and functions working in the Executive”.

The government of PNV and PSE-EE has stated through the information society of the Basque government (EJIE) that “it is analyzing and following the issue”.

The Executive ensures that EJIE has “the best intrusion systems to access”, but also acknowledges that “this is not enough for undetectable spy systems”.

“The mobile phone advisor of the Basque government have built in an advanced security system, but we must bear in mind that a spy system like Pegasus is difficult to detect,” he adds.

That is why the Basque government has decided to intensify the usual checks to detect possible espionage threats.
