The European Union is trying to end the latest reluctance to impose sanctions on Russian oil in retaliation for the gas deliveries to Poland and Bulgariaafter these two countries refused to pay for their purchases in rubles

At an extraordinary meeting of energy ministers, the governments of Germany and Austria, so far reluctant, expressed their willingness to adopt a new package of sanctions that includes crude oil from Moscow, leaving Hungary the only country still denies.

“Austria is ready to consistently support an oil embargo if the Commission and Member States so decide. We are ready, I can say that,” said Austria’s energy minister. Eleanor Gewessler

In the same vein, the German Robert Habeck has stressed that his country “after two months of work” “is not opposed to a ban on Russian oil” and while acknowledging that “there is no time” to prevent such a sanction from creating a “local” problem in a refinery operating exclusively Russian crude used, stressed that “it will not affect the economy as a whole”.

The Berlin-Vienna move leaves Budapest as the only capital of the club that still openly maintains its veto that European sanctions – which must be unanimously approved – also include oil and gas from Russia, as expressed on Twitter. Victor Orban

And this is despite the fact that the Polish government, its main partner in the bloc, demanded more violence against Moscow on Monday in response to the gas supply interrupted to your country and to Bulgaria.

“We already have coal, now it’s time for oil and the next step is gas. The best option is that they go together,” emphasized the Polish Minister of Climate and Environment, Anna Moscow

The European Commission has yet to provide details on what will be the sixth package of sanctions against the Kremlin, in which it also considers imposing sanctions on more Russian and Belarusian banks, new individual sanctions or corrective measures on the Russian nuclear sector. The Commissioner for Energy, Kadri Samsoncalled the press for the meeting of the college of commissioners scheduled for this Tuesday.
