The Vienna Medical Association does not want to rule out a strike to draw attention to demands related to the staffing situation in hospitals. A corresponding email has already been sent to all working doctors.
The Curia meeting of employed doctors had instructed the Curia bureau to prepare strike measures in Viennese hospitals. A lawyer will therefore be charged with the legal representation of the members in the event of a strike in the coming days, reports the “Kurier”.
Still hoping for “solution-focused conversations”
“A corresponding financial framework of one million euros was already set aside in autumn 2022 by the board of the Medical Association for Vienna from the struggle and action fund,” the mail continues. A strike is not yet certain. People still hope for “solution-oriented” conversations to avert the “hospital misery”, it was emphasized.
The healthcare sector, like other sectors, is currently struggling with a huge staff shortage. Recently, the union had presented calculations according to which 2,775 hospital beds across Austria are currently blocked or unavailable because there are no doctors or nurses.
