Showdown in the grand jury room: ex-Minister of Family Affairs Sophie Karmasin is expected to deliver her verdict today, Tuesday. The pollster is accused of illegal price fixing in tender procedures and serious fraud.
Former federal minister Sophie Karmasin allegedly received unlawful continued payments after leaving politics and concealed from the federal chancery that she had resumed self-employment.
Comparative offers “for the drawer”
“Yes, I took the matter of continued payment lightly. I was too careless with the subject,” she admitted to making mistakes in the process, but pointed out that she had refunded the amount wrongly received. As for the studies for the Ministry of Sports, Karmasin stated that she had received the oral commitment from the officials before asking Sabine Beinschab for competitive offers: “They were just for the drawer,” she said.
CASAG lawyers listened to the key witness
The former ÖVP minister was heavily charged by the witnesses during the trial. The employees of the Ministry of Sports rejected their statements in unison. During the testimony of key witness Beinschab last week, the venerable hall in Wiener Landl was filled to the last seat – a whole row of lawyers for other suspects in the large CASAG file alone.
The prosecutor’s office of corruption struggles for success
What they heard should not have calmed them down. Because Beinschab coldly handed her “great role model”, as she called Karmasin, to the knife. Much to the delight of Chief Prosecutor Gregor Adamovic, who wants to make a success for the recently unhappy WKStA. Karmasin faces up to three years in prison. The “Krone” will provide live coverage of the process.
