Income minus municipalities: who will have to pay for everything in the future?

Date:

Troubled times are ahead for the churches. The Association of Cities is therefore demanding more money for states and municipalities in financial equalization. The communities in Vorarlberg also think a lot about this.

Less income, but more expenditure: that is the summary of the new municipal financial report. This shows the development of municipal finances from 2012 to 2021 and provides an outlook for the coming years. It was created by the “KDZ – Center for Administrative Research” on behalf of the Austrian Association of Cities. According to the report, Austrian municipalities’ expenditures should grow twice as fast as revenues this year. The consequences are liquidity problems and declining investments, they say.
