The popular Daniel García has been elected mayor after the PNV failed to nominate a candidate. EH Bildu had been willing to support the jeltzale candidate.
The popular Daniel García has been chosen mayor of the town of Labastida in Álavaafter the PNV councilors heeded the party’s decision not to nominate a mayoral candidate, although they admitted that this directive arouses “horror” in them.
The local elections in Labastida were won by the PPwhich obtained 4 council members, failing to obtain the absolute majority needed to guarantee itself the mayor’s office, as the PNV obtained 3 and EH Bildu 2.
The Abertzale coalition had announced that it would try to prevent the populares from ruling and they did willing to support a PNV candidate.
Finally, García will lead a minority government, and it will the only mayoralty achieved by the Basque PP.
