In the dispute between mayor Hermann Trinker and (former) deputy mayor Hans-Moritz Pott, there was a political confrontation in Styria on Wednesday evening: Maria Drechsler was elected as the new mayor.
For some time now there has been unrest on the list of Schladming Neu, which has had an absolute majority since the last election with Hermann Trinker at the top – the main reason being construction projects.
On Wednesday evening the final break with deputy mayor Hans-Moritz Pott: the city council elected Maria Drechsler, a new deputy mayor. “I can only take note of that,” Pott said of “Krone.” “I no longer belong to the parliamentary party, but I keep my mandate.” He wants to continue to contribute to the free play of forces. Three other council members were now able to turn their backs on the group.
“Municipal Council Integrity”
Mayor Hermann Trinker did not want to comment on the cause in the past. The list of citizens announced on Facebook on Wednesday: “With Maria Drechsler, a long-serving and honest city council member accepts the challenge and task and will support our community in the city council in the future. Maria consistently represents the values of List Schladming Neu, which stands commitment to independent politics for all.”
The FPÖ parliamentary group, represented by one man, also commented on the new deputy mayor: “With the resignation of 1st deputy mayor Pott, Schladming Neu’s list sinks into chaos.”
Unexpected election victory 2020
In the 2020 municipal elections, the Schladming list surprisingly pushed out the ÖVP. It was created from the merger of two lists, that of the lawyer Hans-Moritz Pott, who has been in municipal politics for decades. And that of Hermann Trinker from Rohrmoos, whose core was the fusion-critical attitude of the Rohrmoos and Pichl districts.
