Sedition charges – the court dismissed the charges against Westenthaler

Date:

The Vienna Regional Court has dismissed the charges against former BZÖ boss and former FPÖ politician Peter Westenthaler. Westenthaler is said to have insulted people from Afghanistan as ‘machete killers’, the NGO SOS Mitmensch announced.

According to him, the organization reported Westenthaler in a TV program for hate speech. Because the Public Prosecution Service in Vienna has filed a complaint against the rejected criminal complaint, the incitement procedure is now entering the next round. Peter Westenthaler reported on Facebook that it concerned a passage in the TV program ‘Fellner live’ of May 3, 2023. As an “impartial journalist, he criticized the wrong immigration policy in Austria and especially in Vienna.”

On the complaint, he also stated that they apparently wanted to “prosecute journalists who were critical of the government and unacceptable by means of prosecutors bound by instructions (…)”, even if the proceedings had already been stopped. . He will be commenting again on ‘Fellner live’ next Wednesday from 9.30 pm, he announced.

Columnist and entrepreneur
The judge was independent and had already determined that no criminal offense had been committed. Westenthaler’s file is currently before the Higher Regional Court. Peter Westenthaler (55) currently works as a political analyst for the TV channel oe24.tv and as a columnist for the daily newspapers Österreich and Unternehmer. In recent years he has been sentenced to prison for false testimony, serious fraud and breach of trust.
