The FPÖ will present its own child protection package next week after the verdict against ex-Burg actor Florian Teichtmeister, which it considers too lenient, as FPÖ federal chairman Herbert Kickl announced on Sunday. For example, the FPÖ package includes lifelong registration for offenders, significantly higher minimum and maximum sentences and a general ban on activities for people with previous convictions in all areas dealing with minors.
The fact that Teichtmeister, who obtained 76,000 files containing images of abuse of children and young people, was not in prison gives the impression that the law currently protects perpetrators more than victims, Kickl criticized.
Last week, Teichtmeister was sentenced to a suspended prison sentence of two years and a conditional placement in a forensic therapeutic center for possessing and producing tens of thousands of files containing images of abuse of children and young people.
Kickl: “Many people do not understand the pond master’s judgment”
A judgment that, according to Kickl, “many people” do not understand. In any case, an FPÖ-led federal government would place “the victims and all their needs” at the center of child protection, Kickl announced on air.
The first priority must be protecting victims and society from perpetrators, followed by justice for victims through tough sentences and genuine state-funded aid offers, Kickl said. Therapy for the perpetrator should only be at the very end of the priority list.
