Spokespersons from the EAJ-PNV, EH Bildu, PSE-EE and Elkarrekin Podemos-IU political groups this morning read a statement on the occasion of the celebration of the International Day against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia.

They recall that since May 17, 1990, the day the WHO removed homosexuality from the list of diseases has been commemorated. For this reason, the date has “significant value to the people of the different LGTBI groups as a catalyst for actions in favor of rights and against discrimination that still have to be faced today by a person who does not comply with the regulations”.

According to the statement, “After two very complicated years due to the pandemic and its impact on the entire population, the LGTBI group is one of the hardest hit, widening the inequality gap and increasing violence, situations of vulnerability in many areas.” , has increased. , as in social networks, for example”. For this reason, they emphasized that “one more year after the Basque Parliament, we are raising our voices to denounce the attacks caused by hatred of sexual and gender diversity that continues in many regions of the world where widespread prejudice against the group being LGBTI”.

“It is imperative that we continue to work to consolidate the fight against the different types of discrimination that are still in force in our society, respecting all gender identities, orientations and expressions that are often made invisible; a responsibility of the whole society and it is the obligation of public institutions to fight against all forms of discrimination and violence,” they stressed.

Likewise, they have recalled that “it is the duty of all citizens to work together to achieve an inclusive and diverse society, understanding diversity from the area that concerns us, but also in its globality”. As they have noted, “The Basque Parliament will join forces with all social actors to build a fairer, more diverse, respectful and inclusive society. We will continue to work for the right to equality and non-discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation and gender with the aim of promoting the free experience of diversity”.

Finally, they stated that “on May 17 as well as the rest of the 364 days of the year”, the Basque Parliament “will continue” alongside the LGTBI people and their environment, in the fight against LGTBI phobia. That is why we join the mobilizations mentioned.
