Life insurance – Justice is investigating Strache and Kabas

Date:

Former FPÖ politicians are once again at the center of investigations by the Vienna Public Prosecution Service. According to a newspaper report, life insurance policies were taken out in their favor using party funds.

The targets are ex-FPÖ leader Heinz-Christian Strache and longtime Viennese party chairman Hilmar Kabas. They allegedly received large amounts of money unlawfully, according to a report in ‘Standaard’.

FPÖ assures: No money will be paid out
It is an amount worth millions. The insurance policies are said to have been taken out in Liechtenstein – the first contract for Hilmar Kabas from 2001. The Public Prosecution Service claims that Strache and Kabas ‘knowingly abused their authority to dispose of other people’s assets or to incur obligations to someone else’. In doing so they would have damaged the Vienna FPÖ. The investigation is now underway on suspicion of infidelity. The FPÖ Vienna assured that no money had been paid to Strache or Kabas.

ÖVP and the Greens react viciously
The People’s Party reacted viciously. “The motto of the FPÖ has clearly been for a long time: ‘Your money for our people,’” said Secretary General Christian Stocker. The question also arises as to why the contracts were concluded if those involved deny having received money. FPÖ leader Herbert Kickl is called on to provide clarification in view of “dubious events” in regional groups.

Olga Voglauer, general secretary of the Green Party, also noted that the FPÖ, which claims to be there for the ‘little people’, has once again attracted attention by doing the opposite. Apparently, millions were “pumped” into the insurance policies of top officials at the time.
