In many European countries, former left-wing bastions are gradually falling away. We want to know from you on this forum: Why do you think there is a change in voting behavior towards the right of center? We look forward to your donations in the comments!
Neo-Nazi proximity in the north
In Northern Europe, for example, the Swedish ruling party works closely with the Swedish Party (SD), which has roots in the neo-Nazi scene of the 1990s. In Finland, the right-wing populist party The Finns is already in government through the four-party coalition.
Andrzej Duda and Viktor Orbán dominate in the East, Giorgia Meloni in Italy
In the east, right-wing conservative and populist parties are already in power in Poland under head of state Andrzej Duda and in Hungary under Prime Minister Viktor Orbán. In the south, Giorgia Meloni came to power in Italy in 2022 from the ultra-right party Fratelli d’Italia, together with the smaller right-wing populists Lega and the right-wing conservative Forza Italia.
Migration and other reasons for the shift to the right
In western France, Marine Le Pen’s right-wing National Rally made strong gains in parliamentary elections a year ago, and in Central Europe the AfD and FPÖ dominate the polls. The main reason for this could be increasing migration. But the radicalization of conservatives, the targeting of vulnerable people and increasing nationalism are also reasons.
Why do you think the shift to the right is increasing in Europe? Do you even personally sympathize with a right-wing party? Discuss it with us in the comments!
