In Cologne, three American aviation bombs from the Second World War became harmless on Wednesday evening. Had to leave a thousand meters around the site. More than 20,000 people therefore had to leave their apartments (see video above). A single person refused and delayed the process.
This was announced on Wednesday evening by a spokesperson for the city of Cologne. The regulatory office, the police and the fire brigade then initiated mandatory measures to get the person from their apartment in the old city. German media reported that the person came across a house entrance and was no longer found. The corresponding sector was therefore declared “safe”.
Then (at 6:20 pm) the release was given to make the three bombs on the banks of the Rhine in the Deutz district harmful. The ordnance clearing service was in action. The experts have accused the two bombs of 20 cents and a bomb of ten centuries after the other. At 7:19 pm the three Duds, who had paralyzed large parts of the city, were harmless. The blocked streets and bridges must now be gradually released, residents can return to their houses and apartments.

Curious moments in evacuations
The state of emergency in the big city had started at 8 o’clock in the morning. Many residents have driven to families or friends outside the limited zone – often with emergency baggage in the trunk because they did not know when they could return to their apartments. “My husband goes to work, our son goes to friends after school and I drive to my parents,” said a Cologne resident. “If there is no other way, we can stay there.”
Although a lot has gone well in the evacuation, the emergency services also experienced a number of strange moments. For example, the WDR reported a hearing with a hearing that was submitted to the house that did not hear the bell. When he looked out of the window, he noticed that there was no one on the street anymore and asked the authorities.
There was also a delay in the Deutz district. A bedridden woman still had to be brought out of the limited zone. Originally the harmless bombs of the Second World War should have started at 6 pm, in fact the release was published 20 minutes later. The Duds from the Second World War were discovered on Monday in Cologne-Deutz during exploratory work.
Empty roads and closed stores
Cologne is the most densely populated city center in Europe and has a total of more than a million inhabitants. The streets were swept empty on Wednesday, the stores were closed. Three central bridges were closed for traffic. The fire brigade took a drone with a camera for the first time to observe whether people are still in the evacuation zone.
