The Austrian federal government is making six million euros available from the foreign disaster fund, which will go to the Red Cross, the UN Children’s Fund and the World Health Organization in Syria, but also to Jordan and Lebanon.
To alleviate the acute need in Syria, Lebanon and Jordan, Austria is making six million euros available from the Foreign Disaster Fund (AKF) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Syria and the region have been hit hard by a variety of crises for years: the long war, the millions of displaced people, the global food crisis caused by the war in Ukraine and the aftermath of the devastating earthquake of February 2023.
Foreign Minister Schallenberg: “A region that was already poor in good news is in danger of becoming even more unstable as a result of Hamas’s terrorist attacks on Israel. It is important to provide quick and unbureaucratic assistance to prevent new waves of migration.”
Of the six million euros, two million euros will go to the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and one million euros each to the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and the World Health Organization (WHO) in Syria.
One million euros each will be made available to UN Women for Lebanon and to the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) for Jordan.
